“Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:”
Joshua 1:9 (KJV, excerpt)
God promised to be with Joshua wherever he went.
Have you ever faced something new and wondered, Can I do this? Joshua had a very big new job. Moses had died, and God chose Joshua to lead His people across the Jordan River. Joshua would need to listen, prepare, and trust God. God promised that Joshua would not be alone.
Joshua 1:1-4
God told Joshua to lead the people across the Jordan into the land He was giving them. Joshua had to take the next step and help others move forward.
When you have a new responsibility, listen carefully and ask a trusted adult to help you understand what to do.
Joshua 1:5-6, 9
Joshua did not have to do the work alone. God promised to be with him and told him to be strong and courageous.
Being brave does not mean you never feel nervous. You can pray, ask for help, and do what is right even when a task feels new.
Joshua 1:7-8
God told Joshua to think about His instruction day and night and to do what it said. Hearing the words was the beginning; living them mattered too.
Read a Bible verse with your family. Talk about what it means, then choose one way to practice it, such as telling the truth or showing kindness.
Joshua 1:10-11
Joshua gave instructions to the officers. They were to tell the people to prepare supplies for crossing the Jordan within three days. Everyone had a part to play.
A good leader listens and helps others understand the plan. At home or in a group, do your part, explain kindly, and encourage someone else.
Draw four footprints on a sheet of paper. Label them Listen, Remember, Prepare, and Take a Step. Under each footprint, write or draw one thing you can do this week. For example: listen to instructions, remember Joshua 1:9, gather what you need, and help with a family task. Share your plan with a trusted adult.
Dear God, thank You for being with me. Help me listen to Your Word, make good choices, and take the next right step. Give me courage when I feel nervous. Help me work with others and encourage them with kindness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
