Memory Verse

“but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 (KJV, excerpt)

Joshua chose to serve God and called the people to consider their own choice.

A Promise Worth Remembering

Joshua was growing old. He gathered the people and reminded them of God's help. Then he asked them to choose whom they would serve. Joshua said that he and his household would serve the Lord. The people also said they would serve and obey God.

Their covenant was a serious commitment. Joshua wrote it down and set up a large stone as a witness. The stone reminded the people of their promise. Today we can remember God's goodness, listen to His Word, and show our faith through honest and caring actions.

1

Remember God's help

Joshua 24:1-18; lesson background

Joshua reminded the people of what God had done. Remembering helped them see that they had received help and care along the way.

Youth Lesson

Ask a trusted adult to tell you about a time God helped them. Share something you are thankful for, too.

2

Make a choice each day

Joshua 24:15

Joshua said that he and his household would serve the Lord. He invited the people to think about their own choice. Faith is something we practice in everyday life.

Youth Lesson

Choose one way to serve today: help someone, tell the truth, or finish a responsibility with care.

3

Let your actions match your words

Joshua 24:21-24

The people promised to serve God. Joshua called them to put away other gods and turn their hearts toward the Lord. A promise matters when we follow through.

Youth Lesson

If you say you will help, do your part. If you make a mistake, admit it, ask forgiveness, and try again.

4

Keep a helpful reminder

Joshua 24:25-27

Joshua wrote down the covenant and set up a stone to remind the people. They were to worship God, not the stone. The reminder pointed them back to their commitment.

Youth Lesson

Write a verse or draw a reminder of your choice to serve God. Put it somewhere you will see it each day.

What Can We Learn?

  • Remember God's goodness and thank the people who help you.
  • Show faith through honest words and helpful actions.
  • Ask forgiveness and take a new step when you make a mistake.
  • Use a reminder to practice your commitment each day.

Words into Actions

Draw four boxes on a sheet of paper. Use the labels below to plan one way you will serve God this week. You can write or draw your answers. Add a picture of a stone as a reminder of Joshua's lesson. Share your plan with a trusted adult and ask them to encourage you.

Weekly Challenge

  • Say the memory-verse excerpt with a parent, caregiver, or teacher.
  • Follow through on one promise to help someone.
  • At the end of the week, share how your reminder helped you.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for loving me and helping my family. Help me choose what is right and do what I say I will do. When I make a mistake, help me be honest, ask forgiveness, and begin again. Teach me to listen, to remember Your Word, and to care for other people. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Study with Your Family

Adapted for youth and children from Deacon Jack Williams's October 4 lesson, Do Not Conform to the World, and Joshua 24:18-27, with background in Joshua 24:1-17.
